It can be very effective, but you need to understand its limitations as well – the principle issue is that of uniqueness. Let’s say you purchase a set of PLR articles on a topic like “debt consolidation” for example. The fact is, if you did your research right and found a very good high quality PLR site, you will likely have very well written content (beware though, not all PLR sites are the same and many have poor quality foreign-written content full of grammatical and factual errors).

So, how do you address the issue of uniqueness? There are two primary methods, and each of them has its associated costs in terms of financial costs and time. Method one is simply to create your own well researched, relevant and unique content or pay someone else to create it. Keep in mind that if you do this yourself, it is not quite as simple as you might think. You need to be very cognizant of SEO tactics and strategies in the creation of your content. Think of it like this. You’re building a football team and you go out and hire the quarterback with the best arm in the field, problem is, he’s blind. Content is the same way. You can have incredibly good quality and even relevant content, but if it is not crafted in a manner which obeys some of the basic laws of SEO your results will be mediocre at best. The second approach is to take a quality PLR source and use it as a “baseline” to generate new unique content. How to Get Rid of Unwanted Backlinks

It used to be that sites linking to yours couldn’t harm you. Then along came Google’s Penguin Update.
Now for many websites (and a lot of business models that involve selling 50,000 links for $10) the sky is falling. Websites that have built an unnatural looking backlink profile using a strategy of aggressive exact match anchor text usage are setting off Google’s spam alarm.
So what now? Well, there’s really no way around a good old-fashioned backlink audit. You can pay somebody to sort through them and identify the worst offenders, or you can do it yourself.
If you decide to go it alone, the first challenge is answering what are bad links? On the upside, they usually aren’t too hard to find.
Now that Yahoo’s Site Explorer has gone the way of Google supplemental results, if you want really good backlink data there’s probably going to be a cost involved in even doing your own link excavation. A few tools offer some free info but require a payment for the really deep data.
If you've been hit by Google Penguin or an unnatural links penalty, you’re gonna want to drill, baby, drill. The more backlinks you can evaluate the better.

Taking Out the Backlink Trash

Once you get past the exploratory phase of digging through your backlinks and identifying the ones you want to get rid of, how do you get them taken down?
The answer is simple: It’s not easy.
Now, I welcome anyone to weigh in on how they’ve managed to get backlinks removed, but in my experience, the only surefire way I know of to have backlinks taken down is to ask. Somebody put it up, so somebody needs to take it down, and that means reaching out and making the request.
Virginia Nussey on the Bruce Clay Blog offered some advice on how to approach sending your link removal requests:
Create a template email requesting link removal that you’ll send to the webmasters in charge of the links identified as low quality. The template should candidly explain that you are an SEO or site owner trying to recover from a Google penalty and would he or she please remove the following links. List the URLs where the links can be found, the URL on your site they point to, the anchor text ─ all the info needed to easily find the link you’re requesting removed.
She noted there are four possible outcomes. The website either removes the link and tells you, removes the link and doesn’t tell you, doesn’t reply or do anything, or responds by saying they will remove the link if you pay them.
During this process, Nussey suggested keeping detailed records of your efforts to remove links (she suggests compiling a spreadsheet with linking URL, contact name, contact email, date of link removal request, and response/action taken by the linking site), which you could then send to Google as part of a reconsideration request to show you’ve made the effort to remove every bad link aimed at your site.
And as though the idea of having to contact a bunch of people wasn’t bad enough, in a lot of cases figuring out who to contact may prove to be your biggest hurdle. But don’t worry, there are more than a few ways to skin this cat.

Go back to the company or freelancer you hired in the first place. If it wasn’t you and it was your predecessor or a company you contracted with, then hunt down the original agreement. Follow the money backward if you have to.
If you purchased backlink services, whoever sold them to you should be your first contact. If you bought in bulk there’s a decent possibility the process was automated and hopefully whatever easy method put you on 1,000 websites overnight, can also take you off. If they don’t have an automated system, then they probably have a network of minions they can send the message to.
The point is, if you didn’t get these backlinks yourself, start by reaching out to the person who did. Best case scenario: they may be able to turn what could be a long, drawn-out burden into a conversation with a single point of contact. If you can make it this simple, count yourself lucky and think very carefully about whose help you enlist for link acquisition in the future.

Look for a Contact on the Site

If you can’t get them taken down as easily as they went up, then your next course of action may be to start trying to reach each site whose links you’d like to ditch. I know, it sounds awful and it probably will be.
The biggest challenge here, aside from the annoyance of having to send all of those link removal request emails, is to find people to receive them. You may have better luck finding contacts with some blogs, especially those selling paid reviews, or link space independently.
Although some people make it pretty easy for you to find them on the web, others make it more difficult.
For those who are intent on turning you into a cyber-Nancy Drew, there are a few tricks to hunting people down. However, in a lot of cases, there may not be an individual behind the blog or site your link is on because it’s part of a large blog network. In that case, where you can’t reach a real person for one site, you’re going to have to go to the top. Fortunately, there a few tools to help you figure out which way is up.
  • Domaintools.com: If you want to find out who owns the site your link is on, visit domain tools or type “whois.sc” in front of a URL. Either way will get you to some very useful info. Now, this is another free-ish tool with the most useful and interesting info hiding behind a paid curtain. But without paying, you can often find names, email addresses and even companies associated with URLs. Provided they aren’t hidden behind a private registration. Even if you can’t get those details, you might find the name of the company that owns the domain as well as how many other domains they own and are associated with.
  • C-Class Checker: If you have a list of all the links you want to get rid of, you can run them through a bulk C-class checker to see how many of them are on the same C-class. It matters because if you have multiple sites hosted on the same C-class it may cut down the number of individual sites you have to contact. There’s a good chance that websites on the same C-Class are connected through one main entity. So that means you only have to contact one person, or company, to try to get the links removed from that entire group of sites.
  • SpyonWeb: If you only have 1 URL to work with, this tool lets you find out what other domains they are associated with. Just put in a website URL, IP address or even the Google analytics or AdSense code and you can find all of the websites that are connected to it. Not only may you find a major websites with a person you can contact, you can see if any of your other links come from this network. If one site is really bad, chances are you can afford to lose all the links from the network it is in.
  • Social Media: Whether you’re trying to reach the company that bought your links, a major site in a network or a website that is linking to you, if they have social media profiles, you can use them. I’d strongly advise reaching out to people quietly, and politely as your initial approach. However, if after a few friendly emails you still can’t get results, go all social on them. Outcries on Facebook can get calls returned, and dissatisfied tweets can result in refunds.
Social attacks should be a last resort. In a lot of cases the kinds of sites where you find bad links, won’t have social available. If they didn’t take the time to write content with compete sentences, they probably didn’t bother to make a Facebook page. So you’d most likely have to be looking for the company behind the network to even find someone to complain to.
Getting your links taken down may be as easy as it was placing the order for them, or it might be a miserable battle that eats up months of your life. If you do manage to lose the links that have caused you problems, then consider it a major win either way.
Remember the experience next time you’re tempted to take a link deal that seems too good to be true. The clean up later on may be worse than just getting high quality links from the beginning.

  1. Fast account navigation. You can quickly navigate around your account without having to wait for the loading times experienced in the AdWords interface – this is particularly helpful with large accounts.
  2. Changes can be made in bulk with Editor’s “Select all” function. For example if you need to change the destination URL for all adverts within your account, all you need to do is open AdWords Editor, select all adverts and then enter your new landing page URL in the “Destination URL” box and then upload your changes. This is much faster than manually changing each advert URL within the AdWords interface.
  3. You can import data from Excel. If you’re using the technique outlined in the first point in this article and laying out your account structure in excel, then once you’re done it’s simply a matter of copy & pasting your data into AdWords editor. This means that rather than spending hours to upload account changes, the task will literally only take you a few minutes.

3). Excel’s “Concatenate” function.

Another benefit of using Excel to plan out your account structure, is that you’re able to take advantage of some of the time-saving functions. One of my favourite functions within Excel is “Concatenate”. Concatenate allows you combine the contents of a specified cell with set text, other specified cells or both! This becomes particularly useful with AdWords campaigns in the following ways:
  • Location-specific keyword creation. If you have a keyword that you’d like matched with a large number of locations, say for example “find a plumber”, then all you’d need to do is create a column containing all of the locations you want matched with the keyword. From there, all you need to do is create a formula in the column next to your locations that looks something like this – “=concatenate(“Find a plumber “,A1)”. You now have a list of location-specific keywords.
Your spread sheet should look something like this:

And once you’ve completed the formula and dragged it down to all columns:

  • Location-targetted ad text. In a similar way to the location-targetted keywords, you can use the concatenate function to match up locations with other key terms so that your ad headings & description lines are as relevant to a user’s search as possible. This will help to improve your ad CTRs (‘Click-Through-Rates’) and therefore boost traffic and account quality scores.

4).  Using Automated Rules.

‘Automated Rules’ are one of the newest features added to the AdWords platform, and allow for certain account changes to be made automatically once a user-specified action has taken place. For example, you can ask AdWords to pause any advert within a campaign if they generate a CTR of less than 1%. You could also ask the system to increase bids by 20% for any keyword that falls below position 3 on Google. This automated optimisation helps to do some of the day-to-day account maintenance that can sometimes eat up all of your time.

Hopefully this information helps to save you some time when working on your AdWords account in the future! As you work with these tools you should be able to evolve and improve your workflow to find yourself getting better performing campaigns in shorter periods of time. This goes a long way in keeping both managers and customers happy
In this article I have avoided mentioning any paid third party tools that you can as these generally only become worth the fees when you’re working with extremely large traffic volume – something that would require a media spend that is out of the range of your average Google Adwords user, however these can also be a good option for larger agencies and accounts to assist with productivity.

Consumers Say No to a Facebook Backed Search Engine

Facebook is many things to many people but there are two areas they can’t seem to get right, e-commerce and search. Now, e-commerce is a complicated thing, but search shouldn’t be. Surely Facebook has the brainpower and talent in their pocket to create the world’s greatest search engine, but if they did, would it matter?
Greenlight set out to discover the answer through their “Search & Social Survey (2011-2012).” Before we see the answer, you should know that they only surveyed 500 people. I’m not sure that’s enough to get a true picture, but it certainly is enough to get an indication of the way a group is moving.
When asked if they would use a Facebook search engine (meaning a full search like Google’s, not just an internal engine), 48% said “No” or “Probably Not.”
That means that the most Facebook could hope to capture would be 22% of searchers if they gobbled up all the “Definitelys,” “Probablys,” and half the “Don’t Knows.” That’s not so good, is it?
As for Google search, we already know of its awesome power but the Greenlight survey found that 23% of searchers have been clicking the Google+ button in the search results. That’s a data bonanza for Google.  One thing, though, 28% of those surveyed said they didn’t know what +1 meant.
Greenlight’s Andreas Pouros comes to this conclusion:
“Brands and e-retailers need to be encouraging +1′s in Google, as it isn’t something that might be important in the future – it already is! It affects natural search rankings and will have an increasing impact over time across every Google product they utilise – AdWords, price comparison, Shopping, YouTube, etc., and Facebook could be a major search engine overnight. As such a brand’s performance on Facebook today (likes, visits, etc.) will likely have a decisive impact on how well exposed it is on that new search engine.”
In other words, don’t count Facebook or Google+ out just yet.
